SWAC Joins Industry Call for Tax Provisions!
The Southwest Council recently joined over 40 national and regional agricultural organizations on a letter to House and Senate leaders calling for a renewal of the expired tax code as it relates to Section 179 small business expensing and bonus depreciation.
These provisions provided producers with an essential tool needed to help them reinvest in their operations. Prior to the expiration at the end of 2013 Section 179 allowed producers to expense up to $500,000 of capital expenditures in years when the purchases were made. Without action from Congress in the Lame Duck session the maximum amount will be $25,000 for the 2014 tax year. This would severely hinder the ability of farmers and ranchers to grow their operations, invest in new equipment, or make other essential purchases they need to continue to produce food and fiber.
The SWCA has called on all our members to reach out to their elected officials and voice their support for these important provisions.
